Welcome..You must love fishing off-shore or you wouldn’t have found my Website!
I will share with you all that Phuket and the Similan Islands has to offer..
DON’T BELIEVE ALL THOSE FISHING ‘HYPE’SITES
These waters do share the many challenges that so many other places around the world are facing. Since I became Captain over 35 years ago a lot of water has passed through the exhaust pipes and I have witnessed extraordinary change. The biggest problem today facing our fishy mates below is the sophisticated commercial net, long-line and trap predators who destroy countless tons of marine life. This manic fishing by the Thai commercial fishing fleet ( now over 56,000 registered vessels/ not including the tens of thousands of non-registered ones ) is on a 24 hour – 7 day a week slaughter of anything of any size that has tail attached to it.
DON’T LISTEN TO THE LOSERS
Ok, today it is not as easy to fish as before and the smart fisherman of today has to be much more ‘attuned’ and not just a good angler. And he must fish very differently to before. It’s innovation and persistence, or next to nothing.
So these lazy Captains need to wake up fast if they are to have their Customers coming-back for more. But all I hear these days from them are the moans and groans about no fish.. but they never change. They are still fishing aimlessly in the hope of a return to before which is like yesterday’s newspaper. It’s out of date and so are they.
YOU CHOOSE THE RIGHT BOAT
Don’t waste your holiday money with those lazy ones. Don’t go on a “Fishing Tour”.. it’s just that. Ask a lot of questions as to how they fish and what they are going to do for you before you commit to the trip. The Tour Desks are only there for the Commission. So go speak to the ‘organ-grinder and not the monkey’ and seek-out the reputable foreign Captains or Owners for the real story. Those sole-operators have their reputation on the line unlike the native Thai fishing staff.
IT’S STILL GREAT FISHING!There remains great fishing to enjoy around here and sometimes it is sensational. My catch rates the past two years are still up there with days long-gone by. I still look forward to every trip. You never know who may have avoided the nets and traps and still be swimming around looking for a free feed.
Take a little time to read the many Phuket stories I’ve written on this Site and you’ll understand why.
Come over and enjoy; it’s lots of fun aboard “Ocean Hunter”
