“Ocean Hunter II”.. the 4 Day Sportfishing Adventure..here’s what’s likely to happen
DAY 0
You arrive in Port Blair by Air, picked-up at the Airport to go to your Hotel and enjoy PB shopping and sight-seeing if time allows. I meet you early evening for sunset drinks and dinner and we get all organized for the exciting departure the next morning.
DAY 1
I bring the boat to pick you up at the Chatam New Ferry Wharf at 0600. We’re cleared by Port Control and around 0700 the first Lures are set. The next 40NMiles can be very productive as we go over a rich diversity of bottom contours and up-dwellings from 50 to over 300 metres deep. Wahoo, Barracuda and the Tunas are common attackers and we often get Marlin (both Black and Blue) in the 150-400lb range. By around 1400 we are entering the Sailfish grounds and, depending on the weather, tides and action so far, we continue trolling until just before sunset. Then it’s time to find a comfortable anchorage suitable for the ensuing onslaught (See Story about “Reef Fishing”)
DAYS 2 and 3
Obviously it’s weather dependant and on the bait and Pelagic activity as what we decide to target but after a hearty Breakfast we start pelagic trolling almost immediately after leaving our anchorage. Look at the Pic on the right showing the bottom contours and you’ll immediately appreciate just how exciting this area is for such a diverse range of species.
Now, about eating. We need sustenance in this tropical paradise so here’s how we cater and if you don’t eat freshest seafoods and local fruits and vegetables well, you’re on a forced diet! Breakfast and Dinner are enjoyed whilst at a comfortable anchorage; breakfast being a vital tool in your survival mode. During the day whilst trolling it’s fruits and snacks and hopefully fresh Sashimi (the big problem here is catching Yellowfin Tuna small enough!)
Fortunately the local Port Blair chickens are genuine free-range and pop-out the most delicious eggs imaginable for Breakfast feasts in omelet’s, boiled or fried with fantastic smoked bacon I source in Phuket. Grilled tomatoes, gourmet veal sausages and toasts complete this necessary ordeal.
Night time is a mix of Italian and Thai flavors with fresh Seafoods in Pasta and with the Thai curries of green, red and penang. Famous ‘Tom Yum’ spicy soup completes and satisfies. We certainly don’t starve!
DAY 4
It’s an early start so we can target Sailfish for their early bite in the prime area before trolling the deeper canyons and reefs on the fish-back to Port Blair. Depending on how many hook-ups we plan to enter Port Blair Control area around 1900. This last night requires your Accommodation in a hotel as we have to get ready for our next Anglers’ arrival tomorrow.
